Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico

The Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico (Seminario Evangélico de Puerto Rico) is an ecumenical Protestant theological school located in Río Piedras, San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Ponce de León Avenue near the University of Puerto Rico’s Río Piedras campus.

It was founded on September 11, 1919, through the merger of several Protestant theological training programs from different denominations, including Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Disciples of Christ traditions. The goal was to provide formal theological education for ministers and church leaders after Protestant missionary work expanded in Puerto Rico in the early 20th century.

Today, the seminary offers graduate-level theological education, including master’s degrees and doctoral programs in ministry. It is ecumenical, meaning it welcomes students from multiple Christian denominations and encourages cooperation across traditions.

The institution is accredited and recognized as one of the leading centers for theological education in the Caribbean. It continues to train pastors, theologians, counselors, and church leaders not only from Puerto Rico but also from across the Caribbean and Latin America.

Overall, the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico plays an important role in shaping religious leadership and theological scholarship in the region.
