Ascension Methodist Church is a Christian congregation and community hub located on Prince Charles Drive in Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas. It is part of the Bahamas Conference of the Methodist Church and serves the eastern district of the island through worship, education, and outreach programs.
The church was established in August 1991, led by Rev. Dr. Colin Archer and local Methodist members who sought to form a new congregation symbolizing Bahamian self-governance. The group acquired the former Winton Child Care Centre property on Prince Charles Drive, financed by community contributions and a loan from the Royal Bank of Canada. Its first worship service took place on September 1, 1991, outdoors at sunrise with about seventy attendees.
Ascension Methodist Church was one of the early congregations to embody the independence of the Bahamian Methodist community following its separation from the British parent body. It continues to host regional meetings, including sessions of the Bahamas Conference, and remains active in education, youth engagement, and social service efforts.
The church emphasizes worship, fellowship, and service under the Methodist motto “Fellowship, Word, Service.” Regular services, Bible study sessions, and community outreach programs support both spiritual growth and neighborhood development. Ascension’s location on Prince Charles Drive makes it accessible to surrounding residential areas in eastern Nassau.
