Baptist Union Headquarters of T & T

The Baptist Union Headquarters of T & T is the administrative center of the Baptist Union of Trinidad and Tobago, located at #104 High Street, Princes Town. Founded in 1816, it serves as the organizational and spiritual hub for the nation’s network of London Baptist congregations.

The Union traces its roots to the “Merikin” settlers—former American slaves who arrived in Trinidad between 1815 and 1816. Among them were early Baptist preachers who established the island’s first Baptist communities. By the mid-19th century, links with the English Baptist Missionary Society formalized the local Baptist movement, shaping its London Baptist identity.

The organization’s stated vision is to maintain a Baptist presence in every community of Trinidad and Tobago. Its mission emphasizes uniting, equipping, and supporting local churches to fulfill their ministries and communicate the Christian message. Core values include faithfulness, discipleship, cooperation, integrity, and servanthood.

The headquarters oversees church development, education programs, and community outreach through departments such as the Women’s Department (BUTTWD) and youth initiatives. It also collaborates with the Caribbean Baptist Fellowship and the global Baptist World Alliance, reflecting its international connections.

Leadership includes a President and a General Secretary who coordinate national activities, training, and mission projects. The Union operates under a constitution adopted in 1998, articulating its doctrine and governance framework.

Beyond its ecclesiastical role, the Union contributes to social development, literacy efforts, and faith-based engagement across Trinidad and Tobago. It remains a central voice among Protestant denominations on the island, balancing heritage with contemporary ministry.
