Bethel Fundamental Baptist Church

Bethel Fundamental Baptist Church, also known as Bethel Fundamental Baptist Tabernacle, is a long-established Baptist congregation in Woodbrook, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Founded in 1924, it was the first mission church established under the Fundamental Baptist Mission of Trinidad and Tobago (FBMTT) and continues to play an influential role in the nation’s evangelical Christian community.

The church’s origins trace to Rev. James Vincent Quamina, who founded the FBMTT in 1912 to share the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout Trinidad and Tobago. Bethel Fundamental Baptist Church became the flagship congregation, emphasizing salvation through faith in Christ, regular worship, and community outreach ministries that embody traditional Baptist teachings.

Bethel offers a full schedule of weekly services—Sunday School, morning and evening worship, and midweek prayer and Bible study—alongside choir practice and youth activities. The church’s ministries are designed to foster both spiritual growth and local community support, reflecting its motto of “Preaching the Word since 1924.”

A major renovation in 2016 revitalized the church’s historic presence in the Woodbrook neighborhood. The redesign expanded seating by 20%, introduced offices, counseling and library spaces, and added sustainable features such as rainwater harvesting and low-impact materials. A roof terrace now offers panoramic views of Port of Spain and the Gulf of Paria.

As the earliest FBMTT congregation, Bethel remains central to the mission’s network of seven churches across Trinidad and Tobago, serving as a model of self-sustaining ministry and Baptist leadership training within the region.
