Religious Services Service
The Iglesia Metodista de Puerto Rico (Methodist Church of Puerto Rico) is an autonomous Methodist denomination that serves congregations throughout Puerto Rico. Rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, the church emphasizes Christian faith, discipleship, evangelism, social responsibility, and community service. Since becoming an autonomous church in 1992, it has continued the Methodist mission of proclaiming the Gospel while addressing the spiritual, educational, and social needs of Puerto Rican communities.
The church traces its origins to Methodist missionary work that began in Puerto Rico in 1900 following the arrival of Protestant missions on the island. Over the decades, Methodist congregations were established across Puerto Rico, contributing significantly to education, healthcare, social development, and religious life. Through sustained growth and local leadership, the church developed into a self-governing denomination with its own structure and ministries.
Today, the Iglesia Metodista de Puerto Rico operates numerous congregations and ministries throughout the island. Its work includes worship services, Christian education, youth and family ministries, disaster relief efforts, community development programs, and advocacy for social justice. The church seeks to embody the Methodist principles of holiness, service, and compassionate ministry while responding to the needs of contemporary Puerto Rican society.
As one of the leading Protestant denominations in Puerto Rico, the Iglesia Metodista de Puerto Rico continues to play an important role in the spiritual and social life of the island, fostering faith, community engagement, and Christian witness across diverse communities.
