The People's Cathedral is a Pentecostal Christian church based in St. Michael, Barbados. Founded in the early 1960s, it has grown into one of the country's best-known Pentecostal congregations, with ministries that extend beyond worship into education, community outreach, and regional mission work.
The church traces its origins to 1960, when Pastor Holmes Williams and his wife Rosie began holding meetings after embracing the Pentecostal movement. As the congregation expanded from house gatherings to a rented church in Bridgetown, a permanent sanctuary was constructed at Bishop's Court Hill between 1964 and 1965, establishing the church's long-term home.
The church emphasizes holistic Christian development—focusing on the mind, body, and spirit—through regular worship services, Bible study, youth programs, counseling, and prayer ministries. It has also supported missionary work, local pastors, and charitable initiatives, including assistance with schools and orphanages in parts of the Caribbean.
One of the congregation's most significant community initiatives is The People's Cathedral Primary School, established in 1987 to provide a Christian-based education for young children. The school reflects the church's longstanding commitment to combining academic instruction with spiritual formation and remains an important part of its wider ministry.
The People's Cathedral is affiliated with the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies (PAWI), a major Pentecostal fellowship serving the Caribbean. Church directory listings identify Rev. Jewell Callender as the pastor, reflecting the congregation's ongoing leadership within that regional network
